INTERIm
A little bit about the video:
Handsmade, an artist collective/ multi-genre music label based in Oakland and Seattle, is responsible for the video’s entire production, and I am proud to have worked alongside Zack Kasten, Peter Hinson, John Morgan, and quite a few other talented Handsmade folks. We started filming right as the pandemic started, and we paused working on it over these past couple of years. Patience. Waiting. The thing we call time, ever moving.
We were finally able to finish filming at the end of the summer in 2021. A big thanks to the Handsmade crew.

The video is a visualization of suicidal ideation, and depicts the struggle of being in my interim between life and death. My experience with Electroconvulsive Therapy at age 19 for severe depression is displayed on the screen, and is wielded as a metaphor representing acceptance of life as being nothing more than a choice—to fall asleep or to stay awake, to give up or to try.
I wrote “Interim” because I wanted to tell my story to you, and I wrote ‘Psychosis of Dreams’ (the album from which '“Interim” is taken) because I realized I wasn’t alone in my suffering. If the lyrics are eerily pasted on the screen to help guide you through my thoughts of the possible decisions ahead, could it be that some of us see a karaoke screen, some of us see an act, and some of us see a mirror? I think it could.
Sing along, dance though you are bound, and know that at least one person in this world tried to expose what it is like to exist between the stars and black. You are not alone.
Heart speed,
Leandrul
